How soon should I call to reserve a carriage for my event?
We recommend you call at least 4 months in advance for weddings and 2 weeks for downtown Grand Rapids rides. Allow longer for holidays and the most popular wedding months of June and October.
How many carriages do you have available?
Grand Carriages currently has three white 19th Century Vis-a-vis carriages with maroon velvet interiors including one that has a pumpkin shaped top or Cinderella Carriage. All three were new in 2003!
Can the carriages and horses be seen ahead of time?
Pictures can be emailed to you upon request.
How many people do the carriages hold comfortably?
Our carriages seat 4 adults comfortably and up to 6 if several are children.
What happens if the weather is rainy, cold or too hot?
Carriages run rain or shine, but don't worry, our carriages have convertible tops that can be up or down and include window and door panels that can be added for extra warmth. In the winter, cuddle up with our custom-made Amish carriage blankets. Even our Cinderella carriage can be partially enclosed. Grand Carriages runs all year long!
What kinds of horses are used?
Horsepower is provided by large, majestic Percheron draft horses and are outfitted with black shiny show harnesses studded with silver.
How fast do they travel and far can the horses go?
We can travel up to 7 miles with our horses traveling about 4 miles per hour. Our horses and carriages can be transported to most cities in West Michigan. Please call to have mileage calculated.
What do the drivers and attendants wear?
Our drivers and attendants are formally attired including tuxedos and dress coats for weddings.
Does your company have liability insurance?
Grand Carriages is fully insured with property and liability insurance which covers all passengers, drivers, horses and carriages.
Is there a deposit required?
For weddings or special events, a 20% non-refundable deposit is required to hold your date and time.
What is your company's refund policy?
A full refund would be given if Grand Carriages determines the weather is too severe. Cancellations up to 30 days prior to the wedding date would receive all but deposit.
